Meet Jason Kelsall, Learning Technology Coach

Jason Kelsall is the Learning Technology Coach at Niwot High School and Sunset Middle School.

Jason, tell us about your background in education.

I have a BS in Art Education and a BFA (Bachelor's in Fine Arts) from Colorado State University.  I also have a Master's in Educational Technology through the Colorado State Global University.

I taught K-5 Visual Arts and Technology at Platteville Elementary School for 5 years, and then was an Instructional Technology Coach at Valley High School for 2 years.  For the last two years I have been a Learning Technology Coach at Niwot High School and Sunset Middle School.

What does a typical day look like for you as a Learning Technology Coach?

I spend most of my day meeting with teachers one on one about ways to make learning more dynamic and engaging for their students.

What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most?

Building relationships with fellow colleagues and striving for what is best for our students.

Tell us about a project or activity at your school(s) that you're excited about.

Creating a "breakout" or "escape room" with teachers at Niwot High School. A breakout game consists of a combination of physical and digital puzzle elements that must be solved in a set amount of time. The students are challenged to open a locked box using critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. I love working with our teachers on creating these challenges for our students!

If I wasn't a teacher, I would be a ....

Professional golfer. (If I could figure out my slice...)

What do you do for fun when you're not at school?

I like to play sports with my kids, golf and travel with my family. In the fall I'll be cheering on the Green Bay Packers!
